Finding the best fireplace ideas

OK, you’ve decided on your new stove or heating source. But what about the fireplace? This also needs serious consideration. Let’s face it, the fireplace is a real focus in any home. Along with the TV, it’s one of the main features of a room and the place that draws your eye. So our advice is to take time and care in choosing the fireplace that  best fits your home and your own individual sense of style.

How many times have you visited someone’s home and thought about the fireplace? Perhaps not consciously at all. But it does make an impression because it characterises the entire room. Some people have bought a new home with a striking or highly individual fireplace and then gone on to design the entire room around it. And why not? Ripping out an existing fireplace is no small job, and it is not without expense either.

Perhaps THE key question is: built-in fireplace insert or freestanding stove? For fireplace inserts, I recommend you take a good look at items on offer Spatherm – of which we stock a large range. As you can see, these inserts are high quality, These are designed on the understanding that the fireplace should be there to show off the fire, rather than the other way round.

Modern or traditional? Think big picture!

To kick off more ideas, take a look at the ElleDecor fireplace ideas page. Or if you have a little time to browse, try this page on Pinterest. When you’ve seen some designs or fireplace ideas that really grab you, come into our showroom and discuss them with us. We’ll be able to advise on the practicalities and even how you might go about customising an existing fireplace from our highly extensive range. Sometimes a suggested design may not be what you had in mind, but it’s important to get a complete picture in your head, looking at the stove and surround in the context of not just the rest of the room, but the rest of the house as well.

If you’re wanting to be on trend, you need to take a look at what we call ‘linear’ designs. This involves simple, clean lines, big blocks of stone and non-jutting mantels that run flush with the stove itself. Another trend, is to think twice before you paint the room, and just paint the fireplace itself. That way, you can really end up with the colours and pattens that match your tastes. And as these can change very quickly, so can your fireplace!
